Lawton Hall
near Congleton, Cheshire - Lawton family
"This mansion is a handsome structure of considerable extent. At the time of
Edward the Confessor, Lawton was divided into two portion, both of which
were held by Godric, and both then became property of Hugo de Mara. He then
conferred Lawton on the Abbey of St Werburgh, Chester.
On the dissolution of the monasteries, the manor, together with the patronage
of the church, was purchased from the Crown by William Lawton."
